We are coming to the end of a period of intense activity in the fire and rescue sector, but one common factor remains unchanged – our sector’s dedication to protecting the vulnerable, whether locally or nationally, from fire or from other danger.

This report comes at a time when commissioners and providers of sexual health services have been making repeated calls to the government to address the long-term funding and capacity challenges across local authority commissioned sexual health services.

Councils are, in many ways, just at the beginning of this journey to curb violent crime with growing evidence that the key is a ‘public health approach’ – treating it as a disease that can be cured. By working together with our local partners we can make a difference.

To monitor homelessness pressures caused by the closure of bridging hotels for Afghan nationals, in August 2023, an online survey was sent to 44 councils in England with bridging hotels in their area.

This briefing paper is based on work at two LGA/ Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) workshops in April/May 2018 on working with risk in the context of Making Safeguarding Personal.

The salaries and numbers survey was sent to Chairs and clerks of all 48 fire and rescue authorities in the United Kingdom at December 2022. The survey collected information relating to pay, covering basic salary and gross total pay, and salary schemes in use at both 31 March 2021 and 31 March 2022 for Brigade Managers within the scope of the NJC, including those who pay managers on locally agreed rates.

Our new plan builds on Bright Futures’ successes and focusses our efforts for the coming year.

This update highlights what the campaign has achieved over the past year but also, importantly, looks at where there is still more work to do.
