A guide for local authorities

Councils are making use of behavioural insights to improve health.

The LGA has worked in partnership with providers and commissioners of independent health complaints advocacy services to develop practice guidance for commissioning these important local services.

The demographic and financial context in which the Care Act's reforms are being embedded demands that local authorities are pro-active in transforming their ways of working and business processes, to meet demand and capacity challenges.

This revised briefing document for councillors and other senior local leaders provides a number of timely key messages to ensure that councils successfully realise the aspirations of the Care Act in their local change programmes.

This document identifies and collates key pieces of evidence about the cost effectiveness of prevention in order to develop the LGA's concept of a Prevention Transformation Fund. About 5 per cent of the entire healthcare budget is spent on prevention.

This self-assessment is designed to support local Healthwatch and local Healthwatch commissioners in establishing successful governance for an effective local Healthwatch organisation.

This improvement tool was developed throughout 2014/15 with funding from the Department of Health and support from the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Association of Directors of Social Services (ADASS).
