Early projects have already raised £164 million in capital receipts, reduced running costs by £24 million, created 5,745 jobs and released land for 3,336 homes.

Progress continues to be made in carrying out remediation to the 45 council-owned and 100 plus housing association-owned blocks with combinations of aluminium composite material (ACM) cladding and insulation that have been found not to meet the building regulation standards.

Local government works across a broad range of services that are important to social mobility. These include education, welfare, housing, family services and public health to name just a few. Councils are therefore uniquely placed to proactively contribute to improving social mobility of its residents.

Social housing should be treated as an important national investment and seen as a desirable long-term option for a home.
