Our response to the Government’s £22.5 million funding announcement to help areas with low vaccine uptake encourage hard to reach people to come forward.

“Councils continue to do all they can to keep their communities safe, while encouraging everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated. These extra measures are a reminder that COVID-19 remains a serious public health threat, especially with the new Omicron variant and rising case numbers.

“Councils have long-called for existing outdated taxi laws to be updated and strengthened so we are very pleased that so many of our recommendations have been supported in this consultation."

“Lifting the housing borrowing cap was a big step forward, but we now need the Government to go further in the Queen’s Speech by devolving Right to Buy so councils retain 100 per cent of their receipts to reinvest in building new homes, and can set discounts locally.”

LGA Environment spokesperson Cllr Judith Blake responded to new fly-tipping statistics, which show councils dealt with 936,000 fly-tipping incidents in 2015/16.

"We urge the Government to also consider investing in the recruitment and support of foster carers to make sure that we have the most suitable placements available for all children."

"Councils are now looking after nearly 16,000 more children than they were 10 years ago."
