Voluntary and community sector

The voluntary and community sector (VCS) is a vital partner in providing a wide range of support to enable people who draw on care to live fulfilling and independent lives. The sector also provides crucial pre-eligibility services that help prevent people’s needs escalating. As the sector works closely with individuals and communities, these articles also have a focus on people and their experiences of drawing on care and support. The articles more broadly consider the role of VCS in supporting the aims of the Care Act, and how moving forward, their role in social care can best be supported.

Unfortunately, the experience of millions of people in need of social care, their unpaid carers and care workers, bears little resemblance to the vision set out in legislation. The Care and Support Alliance represents over 60 of England’s leading charities campaigning for a properly funded care system.

Safe Soulmates is a friendship organisation for adults who have additional needs including autistic adults and adults with a learning disability.  It runs social events and can support individuals to form romantic relationships if there is a mutual connection. This case study forms part of the What Good Looks Like report on people with a learning disability and autistic people.
