Strengthening the role of advocacy in making safeguarding personal

This briefing offers support to those who have duties to commission and arrange advocacy services and to the advocacy sector in its delivery, including in defining both advocacy and Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP).

It builds on an earlier publication (LGA/ADASS, December 2017) which aimed to help shape the role of advocacy in MSP. Significantly the earlier work aims to clarify the strong connection between the responsibilities and core principles of advocacy and of MSP and the potential contribution of both to effective safeguarding.

This work is part of the adult safeguarding workstream of the Care and Health Improvement Programme (CHIP); the sector-led improvement programme for care and health co-produced and delivered by the LGA and the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), funded by the Department of Health and Social Care.
