How councils could go further and faster

Energy is one of the largest controllable overheads in many council buildings. To insulate councils from wider energy price trends, and to benefit from the huge opportunities presented by new energy technologies and business models, councils must look to gain greater control over this spend. 

The LGA and Local Partnerships have produced this green finance guide to provide both practical guidance and examples of good practice to support councils in England to find the most appropriate and affordable ways to finance their green ambition.

The LGA worked extensively with Members of Parliament and Peers during the passage of the Environment Bill to provide information and research on implications for local government, support with the drafting and tabling of amendments, influence decision makers to secure favourable outcomes for councils and garner cross-party support for amendments that were in the interest of local government.
