Changing governmental and community priorities have made the middle managerʼs job increasingly complicated. New approaches to the role are essential and our resources aims to help middle managers step into their leadership roles and be a force for innovation, change and transformation.

In October and November 2023, the Local Government Association sent an online survey to all councils providing children’s social care in England. The purpose of the survey was to assess the frequency and costs arising from high-cost children’s social care placements, as well as to explore reasons why the costs of certain placements are particularly high.

This High Impact Change Model aims to support local care, health, and wellbeing partners to work together to prevent, delay or divert the need for acute hospital or long-term bed-based care.

The model identifies eight system changes that will have the greatest impact on reducing delayed discharge.

The high impact change model offers a practical approach to manage transfers of care. It can be used to self-assess how local care and health systems are working now, and to reflect on, and plan for, action they can take to reduce delays throughout the year.

This is a joint paper between the Local Government Association (LGA) and Volunteering England. This paper builds on the LGA's ‘Hidden talents' publications and aims to start a conversation about the role volunteering can play in local authorities' support for young people who are not in employment, education or training.

The LGA commissioned  the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER) to collate case study examples of how local authorities are supporting schools in their enhanced role to provide independent and impartial careers guidance to young people in Years 9 to 11.
