The LGA Labour Group Executive has a total of 19 members. Led by Group Leader Cllr Nick Forbes, the team consists of elected officers, appointed lead members of LGA policy boards and the Leadership Board, the national lead Peer, and a nominated Metro Mayor. Collectively, the Executive Team share responsibility for developing and delivering the political priorities, vision and programme of the LGA Labour Group.
Councillor Nick Forbes CBE is the Leader of Newcastle City Council and Leader of the Local Government Association (LGA) Labour Group. He became Leader of the LGA Labour Group in February 2016, representing the views of more than 6000 Labour councillors and 371 Labour groups in Westminster, giving local government a strong voice in challenging times, alongside a higher profile in policy and campaigns nationally. Councillor Nick Forbes is 1 of 2 local government representatives on Labour’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
He is currently Senior Vice Chair of the LGA. He became Leader of Newcastle City Council in 2011 and used his group’s victory that year to focus the council on social justice and job creation. Councillor Forbes is committed to tackling inequality and prejudice and is determined Newcastle will become a better, fairer place under his leadership.
Councillor Nick Forbes was awarded a CBE in the 2019 New Year’s Honours for services to Local Government.
