The LGA Labour Group exists to provide a strong voice for Labour in local government. We represent and support Labour Groups in England and Wales and the Labour councillors within them.
We act as a platform for ideas and discussion for all those committed to decentralisation within Labour politics and policies. The LGA Labour Group has good working relationships with the Parliamentary Labour Party and Labour Party Head Office, and we aim to ensure the experience and practice of Labour councillors and councils is represented in Labour's national priorities. To support this, we hold regular events and produce publications to facilitate engagement between Labour locally and nationally.
The LGA Labour Group also works as the voice of Labour within the corporate LGA. Labour is the largest party within the LGA and we ensure Labour's priorities are represented in the policy and positions the organisation takes.
Our work is directed by the Group Leader and Executive Team, which is composed of elected officers, elected regional representatives and the appointed lead members of LGA policy boards. The Group Leader and Executive Team set a strong political agenda and work to represent our members, the Labour Party and the LGA.
Member councillors have regular opportunities to engage with the work of the Executive Team at our Labour Group Councillors Forum.

Working with the Labour Party
We work closely with the Labour Party on a day-to-day basis. Labour councillors are represented within the Labour Party through the Association of Labour Councillors and by two local government representatives on the party's National Executive Committee.
