Free councillor training: Commercial skills for councillors masterclasses
The LGA has developed two new free masterclasses to support councillors as their local authorities refocus commercial activity that has been impacted by COVID-19 and changes to investment guidance by CIPFA and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. The LGA consulted with councillors about the topics they need to learn. The content has been developed based on their responses.
The new modules are:
- the Commercial mindset masterclass
- the Commercial leadership and decision-making masterclass.
Councillors can book to attend both or select the masterclass which best matches their need.
The masterclasses will be hosted via the Zoom platform and last 2 hours. There are 50 places available for each masterclass, issued on a first come, first served basis.

Free officer training: Refocusing commercial activity impacted by COVID-19
The LGA has developed five new free masterclasses to support officers as their local authorities refocus commercial activity that has been impacted by COVID-19 and changes to investment guidance by CIPFA and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. The LGA consulted with officers about the topics they need to learn and developed content based on their responses.
The new modules are:
- Commercial thinking
- Commercial business planning
- Adapting commercial strategy
- Governance for commercial activity
- Financial health of commercial activity.
Officers can book to attend all or select the masterclass which best matches their need.
The masterclasses will be hosted via the Zoom platform and last 2 hours. There are 50 places available for each masterclass, issued on a first come, first served basis.
