Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council used apprentices to deliver presentations to the schools directly to the young people that they wanted to join the Youth Council. Rather than it being someone that they couldn’t relate to, there was the chance to get young people selling this initiative themselves.

The Walsall Borough has significant numbers of residents living in fuel poverty (13.7% as at 2017) and in homes which are expensive to heat. The Council were anxious to ensure that as many fuel poor residents as possible qualified for funding.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich was commissioned as part of the European Sharing Cities programme to demonstrate the potential of innovation and technology in the areas of citizen engagement, mobility, energy, housing and city data platforms to benefit the environment, the city and its citizens.

London Borough of Enfield partnered with digital technology company OnePlanet to collaborate and develop the company’s existing sustainability platform to support the council to achieve their climate action targets.

With research showing that girls between 16 and 24 are at the highest risk of domestic abuse, Enfield Council developed an emotive and educational campaign to help young women to recognise the signs and seek help. Head of Communications David Greely explains what they did.

Enfield Council have worked in collaboration with Kensa Contracting and Engie to deliver England’s largest shared ground loop array heat pump programme replacing electric heating, all in under one year and whilst the flats remained inhabited. The project serves 400 flats in eight tower blocks in Enfield was named District Heating Project of The Year at the 25th annual H&V News Awards in 2019.

Our 'Public-Private Partnerships: Driving Growth, Building Resilience' good practice guide supports councils to establish more effective public-private partnerships, with case studies of partnerships which have delivered high impact outcomes. One example is Energetik, owned by Enfield Council, which partners with private sector providers to provide heat and hot water to homes and businesses.

Enfield was awarded the first prize and the Popularity Award in the 2012 National Tilley Awards for innovative work to address gangs and serious youth violence.

In 2020 the south London boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham sought to tackle the inequalities faced by black, Asian and Latin American people by commissioning a sexual health promotion service to work with these communities.
