Southwark is one of only five English councils to fund a universal Free School Meal (FSM) offer for all of its primary schools. The Council’s Free Healthy School Meals (FHSM) programme has been a universal offer and council commitment since September 2013 for all primary school students in Key Stage 2, supplementing the central government funded, means-tested Free School Meals and Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM).

Kirkby Town Centre, located within Knowsley, required large scale public sector intervention to drive and deliver regeneration for the area. This included a number of service co-locations, demolitions and exploring options for unlocking underutilised brownfield land to improve the housing, leisure and retail offer in Kirkby.

Research published in The Lancet in 2018 (Morgan et al) found that there is an elevated risk of suicide in older people who self-harm, yet older people do not always get access to specialist care. Devon County Council have supported Altilitech through the Green Innovation Fund to scale-up their proprietary process for recycling electric vehicle (EV) batteries to a commercial operation. Verified by the University of Plymouth, the innovative method recovers over 95 per cent of the critical metals contained within spent batteries at a quality for reuse in new batteries. Altilitech operates under a circular economy model; retaining value in the local economy whilst reducing the toxic waste and emissions produced in mining.

Together with partners, Kirklees Council’s Culture and Tourism services have developed a place-based approach to transform Huddersfield’s town centre into Kirklees’ Cultural Heart – a designated cultural quarter featuring a new art gallery and museum and the re-development of Queensgate Market.
