The Handyperson programme, developed by the Department for Communities and Local Government, assists large numbers of older, disabled and vulnerable people to live independently in their own homes for longer, in greater levels of comfort and security. Services include providing small repairs and maintenance services, fire and security checks around the home, and referral services. The very low cost interventions offer an important safety net for older people and provide effective health and social care provision. Evaluation shows the programme is highly rated by people who use it.
