LGA responds to RAC annual motoring report

Responding to the RAC’s Report on Motoring 2018, which shows that motorists have become more reliant on their car in the past year and that 59 per cent of those surveyed said they would use their car less if public transport was better, Cllr Martin Tett, the Local Government Association’s Transport spokesman, said:

“The LGA has long-called for more public transport funding so it is pleasing to see this echoed by an overwhelming majority of motorists who would use more public transport if it was better.

“We agree with the RAC that more investment in public transport is needed. The Government can help by ensuring that the national concessionary scheme is properly funded and that the Government addresses the long-term finances of councils, who face a £7.8 billion funding gap by 2025. Otherwise, we risk ever increasing congestion and poorer air quality.”
