LGA responds to care home vaccination announcement

“The success of the rollout so far is a reflection of the ongoing close partnership between care home managers, councils and the NHS, in line with protecting those in the first four priority groups."

Responding to the announcement that residents at every eligible care home with older residents in England have been offered a COVID-19 vaccine, Cllr Ian Hudspeth, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, said:

“Social care has been on the frontline throughout the pandemic and it is a fantastic testament to all those working in health and care that so many of our most vulnerable people and their carers have now received their first vaccination.

“The success of the rollout so far is a reflection of the ongoing close partnership between care home managers, councils and the NHS, in line with protecting those in the first four priority groups.

“In the small remainder of cases where visits to care homes by vaccine teams have been deferred for safety reasons due to local outbreaks, risk assessments have been made in each case and visits will resume as soon as they are deemed safe to do so.”
