LGA responds to APPG for Energy Studies report into energy policies

Net zero can only be achieved if decarbonisation happens in every place, community and household.

Responding to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Energy Studies report into energy policies that will deliver net zero while fuelling the UK economy, Cllr David Renard, Environment spokesman for the Local Government Association, said:

“We are pleased that the report supports the focus on place and giving local and regional organisations a key role in the delivery of net zero.

“We would like to see a national fiscal and policy framework for addressing the climate emergency. This framework should outline responsibilities for the Government nationally as well as locally, with a commitment to working with local public sector bodies.

“Net zero can only be achieved if decarbonisation happens in every place, community and household. Councils must have the necessary resources and be suitably supported by government.”
