Events

To ensure our members have the best opportunity to network, develop their skills and access up to date information we have a number of events throughout the year. This includes our annual conference in November, regular workshops and regional group meetings.

  • 13 January, 3.30pm – 5pm: our annual budget setting workshop takes members through effective ways to set and challenge council budgets, whether you are in the administration or opposition.
  • 18 January, 10.30am – 11.30apm: Levelling Up? If the government’s Levelling Up White Paper has been published our People and Places and City Regions think tanks will be coming together to digest what it means for local government. If the paper has not been published the meeting will be postponed. Contact the office to confirm your attendance.
  • 18 January, 3.30pm – 5pm: A Candidate School event on Developing your USP: aimed at current and prospective Councillors standing for election in May 2022 or 2023, this workshop will help you distil your unique selling points (USP) to inform your campaign activity.
  • 8 February, 11am – 12pm: LGA Independent Group spotlight event on: High Streets - Death by Permitted Development? Hear from the Town and Country Planning Association on their research into permitted development and discuss the impact this is having on your areas, to inform the LGA’s work in this area Contact the office to confirm your attendance.

Member workshops

We hold regular workshops for our members on the topics that are most important to you. If you would like to suggest a topic for a workshop or run a session please get in touch with the group office.

Annual Group Conference

Each year, the LGA Independent Group holds an autumn conference where our members are able to come together to network, discuss key policy issues and take part in skills workshops. We also have a group programme of events at the LGA Annual Conference and aim to hold a Climate Conference in the Spring.
