Workforce Innovation Team (WIT) offer

We want to make sure that we can maximise the opportunity for shared support and learning through our Workforce Innovation Team (WIT) offer.

One of the key aims of the Workforce team is to make sure that we at the LGA are providing the best possible help for councils in dealing with workforce issues using the resources at our disposal. We provide general advice and support as well as direct one-to-one consultancy services.

But we want to make sure that we can maximise the opportunity for shared support and learning through our Workforce Innovation Team (WIT) offer.

How it works

The simple idea is that a group of councils and perhaps partner organisations as needed, would come together and agree on an issue to work on over a period of three to six months. The LGA Workforce Team will help the group define the issue precisely in an initial workshop and then provide support to the group as the WIT develops in the form of research, expert opinion and so on - it is really down to the group to agree expectations. At the end, the partners get an action plan to implement locally and the LGA shares the learning with the wider sector.

We think that groups of 10-20 councils/partner organisations form a useful size for a WIT, but that can be discussed according to individual needs and circumstances.

First pilot

The first pilot WIT began in November 2018 in the East of England, working with the East of England LGA on equality and diversity issues, especially the gender pay gap. The presentations from the first workshop are available for information.
