In 2018/19 councils have continued to confront the challenges facing local government as well as promote opportunities to do things differently. We have continued to focus on issues such as fair funding and fiscal devolution, adult social care, children’s services, housing and preparing for Brexit.

The LGA alongside the Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS) and the Association of Youth Offending Teams (YOT) Managers, have produced this joint policy position paper highlighting the challenges facing the youth justice system.

Councils are critical in preparing people and places to the impacts of the changing climate. As leaders in communities, they deliver hundreds of essential services to protect public health, manage roads, prepare for floods, and provide open space. Nationally we are not sufficiently prepared for the impacts of climate change, and central government must prioritise its work with local government to close this gap. This research report explores local authorities' preparedness for climate adaptation.

The purpose of this document is to provide councils and their community and voluntary sector partners with a briefing on the role and contribution of the community and voluntary sector and the use of volunteers in local and national responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The LGA and the Social Care Institute for Excellence have joined up to produce an accessible and practical resource that supports local systems in fulfilling their ambition of integration.

The aim of this report is to share good practice and help decision-makers consider how their council can deliver on this agenda in the best way for local people and communities.
