Getting to grips with the new technical standards for housing

In March 2015, the government announced a new approach to the setting of technical housing standards in England, which rationalised the many differing existing standards into a simpler, streamlined system. This was accompanied by the publication of a new set of streamlined national technical standards, and a planning written ministerial statement which outlined the policy on the application of these technical standards for plan making and decision-taking.

We delivered sellout regional workshops with speakers from DCLG explaining the new regime and planners and building control speakers to talk you through how this will impact in local authorities.

One of our delegates at Manchester said:

"This has given me plenty of material with which to advise colleagues about whether or not to adopt the optional standards"
