LGA response to the DCLG consultation 'Planning for the right homes in the right places'

The Government’s consultation ‘planning for the right homes in the right places’ includes a proposal for a standard approach to assessing local housing need.

In our response we have stressed that any model needs to be responsive to local housing need and allow councils to reflect the complexities of different housing markets. We are concerned that the proposed model in its current form does not effectively do this, and we have called for it to be optional. This will allow local planning authorities, who are best placed to understand their local housing markets, to use it if it is appropriate for their area.
