LG Challenge 2017

Ten contestants have come from councils across the country to take part in a series of five real life challenges as faced by local government every day: find out more about this year’s contestants and how the challenge works in our introduction film.


Master problem solvers and passionate about delivering the best for the residents they serve, contestants from councils around the country come up with innovative solutions to the challenges faced by local government from creating new tourist destinations to saving millions in adult social care. With the prize of a Bruce Lockhart scholarship worth up to £10,000, there is an opportunity for the winner to make a real and long lasting impact in their area, as well as giving their CV a substantial edge.

The winner of the LG Challenge 2017 will be announced at the LG Challenge reception on 5 July and applications are now open for the 2018 challenge. To apply to be a contestant or nominate someone else, register your interest here.

Become a host organisation

Your authority must be in membership of the LGA from 1 September 2016 to 15 July 2017 (inclusive). We will also consider partnership applications from within the public sector (for example, applications from one or more local authority and a partner or partners in health, the Police and/or the voluntary sector).
