Guide to local authority COVID-19 vaccination data sources

This guide is a quick aide memoire to help Directors of Public Health and their teams understand the range of vaccination data available to them, and where to find it. 


This guide is accurate to the best of the LGA’s knowledge. However, if you feel any of the information is incorrect, please feed that back to us at research@local.gov.uk.

PHE portal/COVID-19 Situational Awareness portal

Access to Directors of Public Health (DsPHs) and a small number of people nominated by them. For access requests, contact WNCoV.dataLA@phe.gov.uk (a process will apply)

Available data, published every weekday, is:

At lower tier local authority level

  • By detailed ethnic group (17 categories)
    • total dose 1 latest day and cumulative vaccination events
    • total dose 2 latest day and cumulative
    • 70-74 cohort by dose, cumulative
    • 75-79 cohort by dose, cumulative
    • 80+ cohort by dose, cumulative
    • care home cohort by dose, cumulative
  • By gender
    • total dose 1 latest day and cumulative vaccination events

Coronavirus Shielded Patient List dashboard

Access to DsPHs and a small number of people nominated by them. Access can be requested via email to containdashboard.accessrequest@nhs.net (two-factor authentication required)

Available vaccine data, published Thursdays, is:

The fifth page of the Coronavirus Shielded Patient List Dashboard shows, at England, region and upper tier local authority level

  • Number on the shielded patient list who have received a vaccination aggregated by
    • first / second vaccine dose
    • age cohort
    • sex
    • ethnic group
Foundry: COVID-19 Vaccine Equalities tool

Access to DsPH and two people nominated by them. For Foundry vaccination data/access queries, please contact vaccination.operationaldata@nhs.net

Available data, updated daily, is:

  • Vaccine uptake of age and vaccination priority cohorts by ethnicity and IMD (Index of Multiple Deprivation), with function to set an uptake target and calculate the gap between actual uptake and target (within the relevant STP population)
  • Geospatial mapping of percentage vaccine uptake by LSOA (filterable by ethnicity and IMD), with vaccination site location, to enable consideration of whether placing additional vaccination sites would help with uptake
Foundry: DHSC Adult Social Care COVID-19 dashboard

Access is restricted to registered users. For councils this includes the Director of Adult Social Services or nominated person, plus a limited number of additional named users. All Directors of Public Health should already have received an invitation to register. If you need the link to be re-sent or have any other queries, please contact the Helpdesk at agem.asc@nhs.net

Available data, reported by care homes via Capacity Tracker and refreshed repeatedly during the day, is:

At upper and lower tier local authority level:

  • First dose vaccines reported separately for residents, directly employed staff and agency staff
    • number known to have received the first dose
    • number known NOT to have received the first dose
    • number whose vaccination status is unknown

At care home level:

  • First dose vaccines reported separately for residents, directly employed staff and agency staff
    • number known to have received the first dose
    • number known NOT to have received the first dose

National Immunisation Management System (NIMS) dashboard 

Access to DsPHs and a small number of people nominated by them. Access is available via the process outlined at NIMS dashboards and reporting.

Available data, updated daily, is:

By clinical commissioning group (CCG), GP practice, ward and local authority (within the CCG list)

  • Count of eligible people
  • Count of vaccinations
  • Vaccine coverage
    • deprivation quintile
    • sex
    • age band
    • ethnicity
    • carers
    • CEV
    • NHS and social care workers

Available data, updated once a week (Thursday), is:

At lower tier local authority, MSOA and constituency level:

  • Count and denominators of residents who have received at least one dose
    • total
    • age cohort (under 70/70-74/75-79/80+)

At upper tier local authority level:

  • Count and denominators of social care workforce who have received at least one dose
    • total
    • type of setting
