Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, responds to NHS Health Check figures published today by Public Health England, which marks the end of the first five-year cycle of the programme.

Councillor Ian Hudspeth, Chairman of the LGA’s Community Wellbeing Board, responds to an announcement by NHS England about funding for the expansion of the PrEP Impact Trial to 26,000 participants by 2020.

"The UK is already one of the most obese nations in western Europe, with one in three 10 and 11-year-olds and one in five four and five-year-olds classed as overweight or obese, respectively."

"Councils continue to lead local communities through this pandemic and will be working hard to ensure residents and businesses understand and are able to follow the rules they face."

“Councils are working to support children and families to live healthy lives and reduce pressure on other public services, from health visitors supporting new parents to weight management services and subsidised leisure facilities, but more needs to be done, especially to reduce the gap between the most and least deprived."

Our response to the Government’s £22.5 million funding announcement to help areas with low vaccine uptake encourage hard to reach people to come forward.

"Any efforts to tackle the causes of obesity needs to be part of a whole systems approach, if we are to help the Government meet its target of halving childhood obesity by 2030."
