Responding to an extra £40 million announced by the Ministry of Justice to help victims during the pandemic and beyond, Cllr Nesil Caliskan, Chair of the Local Government Association’s Safer and Stronger Communities Board, said:

“It is good the Ministry of Justice has announced this additional funding.

“Councils have previously called for funding to recruit domestic abuse advisers, as well as for support services to receive additional money during the pandemic, to meet the increase in demand so we are pleased government has acted on this.

“There is no place in society for domestic abuse and it is important that victims have access to all the help they need. The voluntary sector plays a key role in this and councils work closely with them, alongside police, health and other organisations to prevent domestic violence and support victims.”
