Commenting on the Government’s £1.6 billion for local road repairs, Cllr David Renard, Transport spokesperson for the Local Government Association said:

“Fixing our roads is a top priority for councils, who fix a pothole every 21 seconds. Councils have long asked for an infrastructure strategy to help address a nearly £11 billion backlog in local road repairs as well as help to invest in other important infrastructure in their communities.

“This new investment is good news and will help councils to support their communities and help tackle our local road repairs backlog. Going forward, it is important for councils to have more long term certainty of funding support so they can make the most of this new infrastructure strategy.”
